Warehouse 6 Exclusive: Cognac 2006

At the heart of our distillery sits Warehouse 6, our traditional dunnage warehouse. Inside, our most treasured casks lie low on antique wooden rails above the cool earthen floor. This special place is at the core of Tomatin. Our Warehouse 6 Distillery Exclusives are all first-fill casks, bottled in 2024 at cask strength, and are only available to purchase from our Visitor Centre or website. You can take part in our Warehouse 6 Tasting Experience at Tomatin Distillery all year round.

This single malt Scotch whisky has been fully matured in a first-fill Cognac butt. Cognac casks were first used by whisky merchants to store their spirits in the 1700s. These vessels not only enabled merchants to transport their whiskies, but also imparted colours and flavours that echoed the popular brown spirits of the time, including brandy and rum.

Tasting notes have been provided by Rosemary, a tour guide and esteemed member of our Visitor Centre team:
“The Cognac previously held in the cask used to mature this whisky has imparted rich flavours of vanilla extract, fresh wood shavings and hard boiled toffee. This is a sophisticated dram that leaves you wanting more — soft, sweet and full of velvety deliciousness.”
