Spooktacular Serves: Three Halloween Whisky Cocktails to Try at Home

Halloween is the perfect excuse to get creative with your whisky serves. Whether you’re hosting a party, or simply settling in for a cosy evening, these seasonal cocktails bring together rich flavours, vibrant colours and a touch of Halloween magic.

From a blood-red wine float to a nostalgic toffee apple twist, these easy-to-make serves can be recreated with ingredients found in most supermarkets, making them ideal for entertaining at home.

Curio Claret Sour

A magical whisky sour topped with a striking red wine float. The combination of citrus, spice and soft red fruit creates a serve that’s both visually impressive and dangerously drinkable.

Ingredients

  • 50ml The Antiquary 15 Year Old
  • 25ml fresh lemon juice
  • 1 tbsp rhubarb & ginger preserve
  • 1 egg white (or vegan foamer alternative)
  • Cubed ice
  • 25ml claret wine (or your preferred red wine)

Equipment

  • Rocks glass
  • Cocktail shaker (or a jar with a lid)
  • Fine strainer or small sieve
  • Tablespoon
  • Measuring cup or jigger

Method

  1. Add The Antiquary 15 Year Old, lemon juice, egg white, rhubarb & ginger preserve and cubed ice to a shaker.
  2. Shake vigorously for around 12 seconds.
  3. Fine strain into a rocks glass filled with fresh ice.
  4. Hold a spoon just above the drink’s surface and slowly pour the red wine over the back of the spoon to create a dramatic float.
  5. Serve and enjoy.

Why we love it
The Antiquary’s signature smoothness pairs beautifully with the tart lemon and warming rhubarb and ginger preserve. The final red wine float creates a hauntingly beautiful layered serve that feels perfectly suited to Halloween night.

Toffee Appletini

Inspired by one of Halloween’s most nostalgic treats, this playful whisky cocktail combines crisp apple flavours with a sweet toffee finish.

Ingredients

  • 25ml Tomatin Double Cask
  • 25ml toffee apple sour liqueur or apple schnapps
  • 50ml fresh apple juice
  • 15ml fresh lime juice
  • Toffee sauce

Equipment

  • Martini or cocktail glass
  • Cocktail shaker (or jar with a lid)
  • Fine strainer
  • Measuring cup or jigger

Method

  1. Decorate your glass with toffee sauce. For a sweeter serve, swirl the sauce around the inside of the glass. For a lighter touch, simply coat the rim.
  2. Add Tomatin Double Cask, apple liqueur, apple juice, lime juice and cubed ice to a shaker.
  3. Shake hard for around 12 seconds.
  4. Fine strain into the prepared glass.
  5. Serve immediately.

Why we love it
A grown-up twist on the classic toffee apple, this cocktail balances tangy orchard fruit with creamy caramel sweetness. It’s familiar, fun and packed with autumn character.

Blood Moon Rising

Dark, vibrant and made for spooky season, this eye-catching serve combines smoky whisky, citrus and a deep red glow reminiscent of a harvest moon.

Ingredients

  • 30ml Cu Bocan Signature
  • 20ml amaretto
  • 100ml orange and grapefruit juice
  • 20ml grenadine
  • Ice cubes

Equipment

  • Highball glass
  • Cocktail shaker (or jar with a lid)
  • Fine strainer
  • Measuring cup or jigger

Method

  1. Add Cu Bocan Signature, amaretto, orange and grapefruit juice, and cubed ice to a shaker.
  2. Shake vigorously for around 12 seconds.
  3. Fine strain into a highball glass filled with fresh ice.
  4. Slowly pour in the grenadine and gently stir until you achieve your desired “blood moon” effect.
  5. Serve and watch the colour transform.

The gentle smokiness of Cu Bocan adds depth to the bright citrus notes, while the grenadine creates a dramatic crimson hue that’s guaranteed to stand out at any Halloween gathering.
