Warehouse 6 Exclusive: Cabernet 2008

At the heart of our distillery sits Warehouse 6, our traditional dunnage warehouse. Inside, our most treasured casks lie low on antique wooden rails above the cool earthen floor. This special place is at the core of Tomatin. Our Warehouse 6 Distillery Exclusives are all first-fill casks, bottled in 2024 at cask strength, and are only available to purchase from our Visitor Centre or website. You can take part in our Warehouse 6 Tasting Experience at Tomatin Distillery all year round.

This single malt Scotch whisky has been fully matured in a first-fill Cabernet Sauvignon barrique. Distilleries across Scotland have trialled a variety of casks for ageing and finishing whisky since the 1990s, but a regulatory change in 2019 opened the door for even more experimentation.

Tasting notes have been provided by Rosemary, a tour guide and esteemed member of our Visitor Centre team:
“This is a beautifully complex and full-bodied dram. As you can see the colour has been heavily influenced by the wine barrique. Aromas of oaky red wine, rich and sweet tobacco pipe smoke, blackcurrant and muscovado sugar come to the fore. The palate is full of concentrated flavours of dark fruits, blackcurrants and brambles, followed by a slightly dry finish.”
